Tribal Print Tribe

It has been a while since I have done a whole family look so I took advantage of our family vacation to make another!. This time I wanted to make the guys something more comfortable and casual minus the buttons. I decided on tank tops for the whole family.

Finding fabric was difficult but I came across a beautiful tribal print scuba knit fabric at Joanns. My husband loved it (the reason why this was difficult to begin with) so I immediately decided this was it. As a huge plus it was extremely COLORFUL too! Score!

For the boys I decided to use pattern M7379 by McCalls. This was a really quick sew but I will go a size down next time I make these patterns as the top was a bit loose on my teeny children (lol). The top had you make your own binding for the neck and sleeves as well which was a plus because it looks way better than a plain hem. I also used my DOUBLE NEEDLE for the FIRST TIME EVER to give the hem a more “store bought” feel. I would have loved it had my needles not been extremely old and dull. It did, however, do the trick and inspired me to buy a brand new double needle for my next knit project (which may also be a family look).

For my husband I used M6973 also by McCalls. This tank top also gave me the same gapping issue but I fixed it by tightening the binding around the neck and arm holes. The cut on the side, my husband found” to be too deep exposing his “side boob” (lol). In the end he did end up loving the shirt and it was better for him because I wasn’t making him another!

Last but not least I used Cynthia Rowley for simplicity pattern 1373. I loved this top as it was very simple to make a few seams and you were on your way. For the tie at the shoulders I decided to go into my scraps and pulled out a yellow fabric I used for a secret project but had enough leftovers for. This fabric was also knit but I believe if you make the tie with a nice silky fabric it would give it a more delicate look. This top was easy on my time and easy to style, it is simplistic and your choice of fabric will really change it up. I wanted a more sporty look so my print and fabric choice made it just that. I love that it is easily paired with shorts, Jean or leggings for completely different styling options and the tie really gives it a flirty touch.

All in all, my little unit was ready for a matching family vacation. There is no mistaking who my monsters were while wearing these, they were truly unique and my boys were so happy about them.

I hope you enjoyed this family look as much as we enjoyed wearing them!
